Archie works as an organized crime enforcer. Jughead cuts a tattoo out of a woman's arm with a switchblade. But the Riverdale show sets a benchmark for depravity. The comic has always poked fun at its inherent squareness crossovers like Archie Meets the Punisher and horror reimaginings like Afterlife with Archie come to mind. In the four seasons it's been on the air, Riverdale has taken Archie Comics, the very archetype of the clean-cut, All-American dream, and turned it into a Lynchian nightmare.
